Pulling articles from Plaidstallions and posting them in the DU Lounge is like shooting fish in a barrel.
If you're like me, September is filled with memories of being dragged to the mall to try on your new "Back to School" ensembles. My own mother was partial to "Marks and Spencers" or as I referred to it "Corduroy Hell".
On this wonderful occasion let's look at the best outfits 1975 would force you to try on and try on and try on. More after the jump!

(1,262 posts)I could easily imagine men's suits with wide lapels and bell-bottom pants. The leisure suit is another story.

(3,479 posts)We had one guy who wore the suit on the right in a few different colors daily. But bow ties were not cool not even then.

(20,202 posts)Certainly not with bow ties. Yes, leisure suits were a thing, but for dads, not teens.
Now, girls wearing jeans so tight they had to be zipped with a pair of pliers? That was a thing. I also had a pair of hip huggers with a 3 inch zipper.

(82,849 posts)But do you know how many polyesters died to make each of those snazzy outfits? The hair's a little closely cropped (HS class of '76), but otherwise, I remember many of those "fashions."

I never fell for '70 clothes, but I did get into the hairstyle. To my extreme good fortune, there is no evidence online.
I did own a yellow and orange shag carpet from Sears. It was their cheapest one, at $19.95 for a 7-1/2 by 9-1/2 (that's right, I didn't even get a full 8 by 10) room carpet. The hardest part to explain of this episode in my life is that a thrift store accepted it as a donation.
The horror; the horror.
