Question about Missionaries

Do Missionaries usually have their passports kept by the church when they are in Africa. I messaged someone on Plenty of Fish earlier this week and they claim they need $820 for a laptop and internet for five months in Nigeria. When I asked for a photo of her passport to prove her identity she said all forms of ID are taken for security reasons. I'm stating to feel like I'm being scammed, which is unfortunate because whoever this person is seems very intelligent.

For a legal scam, become a televangelist... Very profitable and tax free... Or own a church. keithbvadu2 Sep 2018 #12

Another good rule to follow is if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

I just told her to reach out in six months when her mission ends or to toss me a note if she ever does get her hands on some internet access during her mission. I won't hold my breadth though.
