I had an experience recently that really brought it home to me. I went to a liquor store with my granddaughter and she didn't get carded.

(In all fairness, she had gone to school with the cashier, so he already knew her age.)

Back when I was just old, we used to have to hike uphill in the snow to talk to our elders about when we were young, and we were thankful to do it. If not for that hike, we'd never have gotten a chance to kill and eat the dinosaurs. You kids today, with your cooked food! It spoils you, I tell you.

...years ago), being a bit take aback when I realized that I could speak of something that happpened “10 years ago,” and I wasn’t a kid when it happened.

I’ve been a pediatric nurse practitioner for 42 years. At 40 years, I said, “Gee, that sounds like a long time.” Then I said, “that doesn’t just sound like a long time, that damn well IS a long time.”
