The only thing bad I can say about them is that they don't live very long, only 2 to 3 years, so a child can get quite attached and then BOOM the hamster dies. Guinea pigs can live 4 to 8 years though.

Our terrier/hound mixed mutt would probably try to eat the hamster 🐹. So, the little fellow would have to live in my kid’s bedroom. I woukd have to clean the habitat constantly in order to keep it non-smelly. Maybe they’re not too smelly. We’ll see.
