(24,504 posts)Yeah, it was quite an event. They had the Wall of Sound for that show....it was a sonic experience like nothing I had ever heard. The New Riders opened for the Dead in cowboy glitter suits. A delightful show that made me a lifelong Deadhead.

Like Jehovah's favorite choir.....
My first show NYE 68-69. My last, July 2018. 500 shows with Jerry, 100 after. Many Garcia projects. Planet drum. You name it, I saw them.
All you have to do is look at the touring bands of today. Phish, Widespread Panic, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Yonder, Railroad Earth all are following the Dead's model. Many more as well.

(36,434 posts)and put the Dead on the map. That is, if they could remember the day.
The Wall of Sound? Meh.

(15,330 posts)I stood about 20 yards from Pete Townsend's double stack in 1972.
That changed my life, if not my hearing forever

(1,815 posts)I didn't see my first Dead concert until shortly after they had stopped using the system. I'll have to check out those Pacific NW recordings.
I wonder what became of the components?
They spelled "decibels" wrong in the graphics.
