Just call it Dunkin'.
Starting in January, Dunkin' Donuts will drop the "Donuts" from ads, packages and signage at new and remodeled stores, as well as its social media accounts.
The makeover is part of Dunkin' Brand's efforts to relabel itself as a "beverage-led" company that focuses on coffees, teas, speedy service and to-go food including - but not limited to doughnuts.
Dunkin' says that beverages, especially coffee, make up 60% of the company's US sales.
"Our new branding is one of many things we are doing as part of our blueprint for growth to modernize the Dunkin' experience for our customer," said Dunkin' Brands (DNKN)CEO David Hoffmann in a statement Tuesday.

(65,081 posts)8 or 9 years ago i went to Boston on business. I got a REALLY cheap flight if i went out Sunday morning instead of late in the day.
So, i leave Chicago at 6, and i'm in Boston around 9:30 eastern, but nothing to do. Knowing that i had contacted a guy who was my next door neighbor in HS and early college who works at Springfield College.
I get on the turnpike to head west and stop at a DD. I ask for a coffee and the young woman says "Regular?" I say yes.
I'm walking out with my coffee and take a sip. There had to be 3 packets of sugar and 3 ounces of cream. I took it back in and said "I asked for regular." Her reply was "That is regular". That's when it finally dawned on my THAT I WAS IN BOSTON. (Ya big dummy!) Go to a DD in Chicago and if you say regular, it means black. But, not in Boston.
She was really nice, just poured it out and gave me a black coffee.

(5,790 posts)The donut business is somewhat at the mercy of cyclical fad diets (read: Atkins). I think they want the option of more heavily emphasizing other products - and coffee is always where they've made their money.

(709 posts)there several months ago but the selection wasn't impressive. I expected more of a bakery but it does seem they're turning into a coffee house. It was disappointing.

(9,894 posts)If I go to DD I go for the doughnuts because I don't like the coffee. I haven't been there for quite awhile, because the last time I went they hardly had any doughnuts and had no selection. I'm obviously still in the '70's when it comes to DD. So buh-bye from a not so regular customer. We have non-chain doughnut stores around here now. By the way, hate the name change.
