I had a Beatles disc in the player, and 'A Day In The Life' came on.

My grandson listened for a little bit, and then asked:

"Grandpa, what's this song about?"

How do you explain this song to anyone, much less a four year-old?

"Well, it's about a guy who is sad."

"Why is he sad?

"Well, he's sad because bad things happen in life, and he can't do anything about it."

"Oh. It's pretty weird."

I decided to change the song before the really weird part played and freaked him out. 'When I'm Sixty-Four' came on. He listened for a bit.

"Grandpa, what's this song about?"

"Well, it's about a man who is happy."

"Why is he happy?"

"Well, he's happy because even though bad things happen in life, good things happen too, and he has lots of people who love him."

"Oh. I like this song better."

"Me too, sweetheart."
