I was delivering parts to a dealership and had a cop ask me what I was doing. I told him making pizza's. He asked for my id and I gave him my driver's license and then he asked for my phone number.
I said I wasn't giving him my number. Then things slipped into the twilight zone.
He cuffed me, frog marched me to his car and slammed the door on my knee. My 11x surgury knee.
Another cops showed up and he let me go, not without a couple of more jerks of my arms up to my head.
He was an angry man, WAAAY to much to be a cop.
Calling a lawyer tomorrow.

(86,775 posts)but you are not required to give it nor are you required to give them anything more than your ID. No SoSec# or anything else without being represented or accompanied by legal advice.
Sue them, hard.

my brother is looking for a lawyer... I posted Sat morning about my brother being arrested for "felony drug possession" going through Ohio because he had his prescription pills in a bottle that wasn't the original... he was saying last night that at the station they asked way too many questions... how far in school did you go, etc... he has to be in court Tuesday am... he is scared
he said the cop that stopped him was an asshole... we are all outraged...

(13,485 posts)When they become authoritarian they start doing and asking things that are outside of their authority and if you don't comply they can't accept that they overstepped so they double down. The last thing the authoritarian can do is stand down. That's why the other cop was the one to let you go. The first one would have had to backtrack his actions. What a stupid spoiled brat game.

(4,887 posts)He was pissed from the get go
I was referring to him being passive by having another cop let you go which is actually being more aggressive toward you. I wasn't there so I don't know...

(2,484 posts)Based off multiple encounters during my younger days, they would have asked for that information to file an incident report. There are a few details missing from this story.

(4,887 posts)That i was working? That i gave him a current drivers license? So, it's not complete how?
I refused to give my phone number. THAT made him loud and angry.
A total, TOTAL, over reaction on his part.
I will talk to a lawyer. Hope that clears it up, if not, what other details do you need?

(2,484 posts)Here are the questions that immediately popped into my head:
- It is likely that you were pulled over, but your wording suggested that it could have been a pedestrian Terry stop.
- You didn't mention the reasoning given for the primary stop. Even when they profile, they give BS reasons.
- You said you were delivering parts, but also making pizzas? I couldn't connect the two.
- Asking for your phone number would have happened as he was writing a citation.
- The situation escalating over a phone number, which can be obtained very quickly without your cooperation, is peculiar for an otherwise normal traffic stop
I'm not saying you deserved to be pulled over or detained, or passing any other judgment. I am just pointing out that there was missing information.

(4,887 posts)Roll up door. I had to unlock a chain across the driveway and open a man door to access the roll up door.
I had taken out a large number of parts, put them where they wanted them, and was loading up the returns when he showed up.
I was not driving, I was working. He asked me what I was doing. I said making pizza. Unsaid was "what the fuck does it look like I'm doing"
So, no food, just ford parts.

(23,741 posts)Was it a traffic stop? Were you acting suspicious around a business a establishment? Not that it matters in terms of him asking for your phone # and them going all WWF on you. Just trying to understand what initiated the contact in the first place.

(4,887 posts)To a dealership. Had the keys to the gate and door. I was putting return parts in my trailer when he appeared.

(10,885 posts)had been broken into. Called the cops and one arrived shortly after. He looked around, did nothing except write a report. Took no prints at the broken window. (Do I watch too much TV?) As he's writing up the report, cop asks me for my Social Security number. I asked him why he wanted or needed it, and his only reason was "standard procedure for the report". Well, that wasn't enough of a reason to me, and I told him so, refusing to give my number. Why would I, the victim, need to give MY number...doesn't make sense. Guess he buried the incident as I never heard another word from the PD.

(36,827 posts)Years ago I had one misquote me on a traffic ticket to make it appear as if I incriminated myself. I didn't notice before I signed it.
Now I simply tell them I'm going to remain silent. Sarcasm only invites belligerence and belligerent people are drawn to the profession like flies to shit.
