I cannot stand the stuff because I grew up on it. Fried was better than just plain.

My father loved it, he loved it so much that he ate 3 sandwiches of it in his lunch every day. He ate it at home, at work and for snacks. I suspect it was partly because it was cheap and we got it between 2 pieces of old bread with only mustard. We did not have a lot for extras. He ate it so much we 3 kids began calling it "Daddy's meat". We called it that all the time, it was what it was. When I think back I do not remember adults recoiling in horror like I might today hearing something like that but I do wonder how many people died laughing when they heard us use the term.

I doubt I ever eat it again and I don't think I have had it in 40 years or more.

and she would put these 3 or 4 butter patties on the bread with the mustard. She would cut the butter off the refrigerator hard block of butter, and put it on the breadth her butter knife, but it would not spread thin because it was so gawd damn rock hard cold when she knifed it.

Then when Sister Perpetual Agony caught me trying to pull off the butter patty without ripping out a chunk of bread, I would get scolded for playing with my food. I couldn't win.

Here I am 60 years later and I can still taste that cold glob of butter "touching" my bologna. Yuck!!!

I am certain there are better memories but they get hidden by things like these. Isn't it funny? I can imagine you remember that and the yucky butter on bologna. Ewwwww.

Great for lunch with ice cold milk. Fresh white bread, bologna, mayo —-yum. Haven’t had bologna in so long, I can’t remember what it tastes like.

fancy Italian bologna. Or not so fancy, probably just the name is fancy.

We go to a couple fantastic Italian delis in Orange County, and I always want some of that Mortadella even though there are some other nicer meats—Capicola (sp?). Love the fancy bologna, and a staple in our house now is a hot pepper spread, Pagliacci’s Hot Italian Style Pepper Spread. Makes for great Italian sandwiches!
