I see my dog wagging her tail when she's asleep. I am happy she is having good dreams. She was abandoned by her former owner and I saw her for the first time after the pound gave her a flea bath. She was covered in those bugs, which obviously didn't give her a moment of rest. The nights that week she was alone were frigid, so sleep couldn't have come easily.
After I brought her home she would struggle through sleep. Almost sounded like she was crying when she tried to bark her way through a bad dream.
So, the first time I saw her wag her tail in her sleep, about a year ago, was a glorious moment.

May your pup continue to have those tail-wagging dreams for a very long time!

(9,186 posts)The last couple of years he was blind and deaf, but he still was happy enough to wag his tail in his sleep -- and most other times, too.

(2,220 posts)We got our flat-coated retriever at a rural shelter. He had been there most of the first year of his life, adopted out and returned multiple times. He was so pitiful, we couldnt leave without him, even though he was terrified. For many months, we werent sure he was really happy in his new, spoiled dog life, but after about six months, one night he was sleeping stretched out on the sofa when he suddenly went belly up, tail wildly wagging, and one front leg straight up in the air, like in a fist pump. My husband and I both cried. Seven years later, its a nightly occurrence, but it still catches our hearts. How far he has come, how lucky he is, how much we adore his crazy self.
