Related: Culture Forums, Support Forums"A god thing." I live in an red area and attend 12 step meetings.
And its getting to where I have to bite my tongue when I hear that phrase.
I think its a crock. People usually use it to mean something turned out that was fortunate for me or someone close to me.
Yesterday at a meeting a woman said that her son was talking to a coworker of hers that he ran into somewhere in town. The son ratted her out as being a member of a supposedly anonymous 12 step group, and the coworker was also a member of that fellowship. And the woman said, it was a God thing!
Another woman said, so much for anonymity. Which restored some sanity to the conversation.

And the woman he told, how limited is her understanding of the anonymous part that she did not tell blabbermouth what a violation that was.

(13,874 posts)I would go to NA meetings with her, but there were a lot more AA meetings so we would also go there.
I was so put off by the church revival atmosphere that I found it hard to participate. Found a group called SOS - Secular Organizations for Sobriety. Much different approach than AA. Might be a chapter in your area.
