So many mind blowing bluegrass bands.
Del McCourey band
The Traveling McCoureys
Yonder Mountain string Band
Greensky Bluegrass
The Avett Brothers
Hot Buttered Rum
Infamous String Dusters
Trampled by Turtles
all traditional no drums, bluegrass bands. There tons more out there and a whole nother category at bluegrass band is where they start.
Leftover Salmon. Probably the most influential band getting to where we are since Old and in the Way.
Railroad Earth. Best songwriting around. Gorgeous music.
String Cheese Incident. How far can music go? Best band in the world.
So many great bands that have bluegrass DNA. Of course the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia are the progenitors. Old And In The Way got every head into that traditional bluegrass thing. Jerry introduced himself to Bill Monroe as "your next banjo player" after driving across the country to audition. (a job he did not get). Jerrys music is on five of the top ten selling bluegrass albums, I think. Most with David Grisman, Jerry's old bluegrass buddy who accompanied Jerry to meet Bill Monroe. The Pizza tapes are remarkable.
