Some families had more extravagant gift-giving but in my family, we kids only got one gift each (plus a stocking with pack of gum, chocolate bar, an orange, a bottle of soda) but we were thrilled and usually knew (from sneaking into parents' bedroom closet) what our big gift would be that year. My favorite gifts were a sled at age 7, transistor radio at age 8, clock radio at age 10, record player at age 11, typewriter at age 12, guitar at age 13 and a small black and white TV at age 16 even though we could only get 3 channels.
