As a police officer administered CPR. Praying for a miracle for this poor person. I'm pretty shaken up.

(23,337 posts)That is really traumatic. I hit a pedestrian in 1982. It was truly an accident. I wasnt cited and the pedestrian ended up okay but the sights and sounds of that day have never left me. As said above, talk it out and Im sending you a big hug.

(5,969 posts)consider being a witness. My brother was hit by a car once and thankfully there were witnesses. I hope the person will be ok but the insurance and emergency costs alone will be horrific.

(4,925 posts)Just the aftermath. There have been 2 other pedestrians hit by cars on that stretch of rosh in the past 6 weeks. Including an 8 year old. Very disturbing. It really looked bad. I'm so upset and sad for the person and their family.

(6,110 posts)driving south on Dan Ryan Expy, traffic all of a sudden came to a grinding halt.
After waiting 10-15 minutes in completely stalled traffic, I see people getting out of
their cars and walk south. So I got out and walked may be 75 feet south and came
to the point where Dan Ryan splits into local & express sections. There was this car
which had rammed into the concrete divider and the driver was crushed by collapse
of the front part of his car ramming into the concrete divider.
The driver was in obvious death throes shaking violently. The dash of his car was
literally 6" away from seat-back. The poor guy was completely crushed.
I was so shook up, my whole body went limp, I walked back to my car slowly,
got behind the wheel, but was unable to drive, shaking so bad. I pulled over on
the shoulder and stayed there and just sat there to recover. When finally I began
driving I could not get myself to go over 40 MPH for several miles, because I was
so shook up having witnessed a man crushed to death.
Later, they installed several barrels of crushable material in front of that concrete
barrier.

(4,925 posts)I feel for the officer who was giving the victim CPR. As much as you are trained and as often as you see horrible things, it still must be terrifying to have someone's life in your hands.

(6,110 posts)due to an accident happening right before my eyes. I don't know how police officers handle arriving first at a scene of a gruesome murder, perhaps many times during their careers.

(38,580 posts)When I was in elementary school, the playground was across the street from the school. In the morning, they'd ring the bell and we'd all line up to go inside. Then the playground monitors (teachers) would send a couple of kids across the street to the school building to hold the doors for the rest of the kids.
One of my classmates was about to cross the street to be a door-holder and a teacher drove up the street. She stopped her car, my classmate stopped at the side of the street. They both waved each other on. Then they both proceeded. She hit him. The entire school witnessed it. The kid survived, thank goodness.
It's just a tough thing to see. I'm sorry you had to see it.
