Robo calls are ruining my life a little bit.

I hardly ever get them on my mobile phone, but my landline is a different story.

I get 30 to 50 robo calls a day on my landline. I have nomorerobo, which stops the calls after one ring, but that doesn't really solve the problem.

There are several calls that I am currently expecting, and that are important to me. I'm waiting on calls from contractors. I just had surgery, so I'm waiting on calls from doctors. To make matters worse, these asshole callers are spoofing the number of my local hospital, so sometimes they are getting through.

So let's say that I am pretty sure that I have handled my personal telephone business for the day, but I really can't turn my ringer off in case an important call comes through. But I want to take a nap because, you know, I just had surgery. As soon as my head hits the pillow, either a one ringer will come in, or a spoofed call. No nap. So I go to wash my hands...a one ringer comes in. Since that may be an important call, I jerk my soapy hands away from the sink and start looking for a towel, then the ringing stops. Or. it's a spoofed number from my hospital, so I answer it, and there is a long pause...a sure sign that it is some boiler room robo call bullshit.

Or, I'm on an important call with my doctor on my cell phone, and my landline starts ringing with a spoofed number from my hospital. So I say fuck it, the machine will get it, but it then just rings 4 times and they hang up.

Multiply this fucking horseshit by 30, or 50 times a day, and you start experiencing real stress.

I passionately hate these fucking lowlifes. I want to hurt them. Seriously...this kind of shit makes me hate everything.

I agree.

The quantity of phone spam is pretty amazing.

I'm really close to getting rid of the landline, but there are probably 75 to 100 people who call me on the landline, and have for years. I only give my mobile number out to people that I want to be able to contact me wherever I happen to be.

any legitimate caller will leave a message. So you can just not answer until you review your messages. Block the numbers of robocalls

it beeps when there is a message. The machine is upstairs, and the beep can be heard throughout the house (I leave the volume up on the machine in case I am downstairs and someone who I want to talk to starts leaving a message...I can grab the call downstairs while they are leaving the message).

I'm certain there is a way to turn the beep off, but I messed around with the machine for awhile, and I couldn't figure it out. I should probably just buy a new machine.

Edit to clarify: sometimes the machine will register a message if they don't hang up soon enough without leaving an actual message, so the thing will beep all day with no actual message being left).

It's closed down with the federal shutdown. Of course they can only go after the "legitimate" callers and not the scammers that spoof numbers

I feel for you, Lucky Charms - I went through the robocall/telemarketer harassment after surgeries and while my parents and mother in law were dying. It's hellacious.

I keep my great aunt's old whistle that she used while teaching phys ed next to the phone. Microsoft "Security" and the vehicle warranty people get that at full force. Once I heard the guy on the other end say, "It's the lady with the whistle!" just before he hung up.

But I do get them, say, about 10-15 calls per day.

I can't imagine being in your situation ...post surgery ....and trying to take a nap, etc. Well, maybe I can.

It is beyond annoying and I wish someone would enact legislation to put a stop to it. But, of course, whatever is good for businesses always seems to take precedence over what is good for the little guy. I feel your pain!

I hate talking to just about anybody on the phone except my sister, but have to be available for the "business" side of my life. it sucks.
