The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just meditated for 2 hours and 36 minutes. Ask me anything.
Just call me Baba Tobin.
I've had a daily meditation practice for about 6 months now. For the first few weeks, I didn't think it was doing much to me. Then I had a couple of great insights and I was hooked. I can really tell a difference now, and if I miss a day I don't feel right. Today was a marathon session for me. A little retreat in my living room on my day off. I usually sit for one 40 minute session a day, and every once in a while 40 minutes twice a day.
Meditation is tied to spirituality for me, but you don't have to believe in that to benefit from a daily meditation practice. Your practice can be secular in nature.

(10,418 posts)I'm no guru, that's for certain. But thoughts just come and go. The first thing I did when I was done was eat.

(66,452 posts)Do you use a mantra?
And if so, what is the purpose of a mantra?
Tobin S.
(10,418 posts)I don't use a mantra either. As far as I can tell, a mantra can have just about any purpose. People use them for a variety of reasons including health, prosperity, enlightenment, resolving mental issues, etc.
I use audio recordings from Sacred Acoustics for my meditation sessions, and I highly recommend them.
