Do we have any superstitious people here?

I am generally not superstitious, but there are areas where I am. A few years back I had just gotten a new job. It was a good job. It paid well and had good benefits. It was also located in my hometown, and such a job is hard to find here due to it being a small town. Otherwise, I have had to have a long commute to be able to work a decent job.

It was second shift hours, and every night to and from work I would listen to this CD in my car. It was a new album by a heavy metal act. Really good stuff if you are into that kind of music.

Well, I got fired from that job two days out from my 3 month evaluation that would have made me a permanent employee. I wasn't doing a bad job for them. It was all politics. I might have actually been doing too good of a job if you catch my drift. Somebody higher up on the ladder felt threatened and had the power to nip me in the bud...and they did.

Anyway, I will not listen to that heavy metal album now- good as it is. I'm afraid it will bring me bad luck.

I joke about the mirror & ladder ones.

BUT - I have thrown out "bad" clothes that have done me wrong
And I always kiss my hand and hit the roof of the car when going thru a yellow lite lol

I don’t know about luck but hearing it after that happened may bring back bad juju as in negative vibes from what happened at that job

I still get pissed off about that sometimes even though I have a good job now that I've been at for over two years that is actually better than the one I got fired from. They might have done me a favor looking at it from the perspective of hindsight. It still hurts though.

I knew a company after 90 days you joined the union etc so they would cut most people out after 80 and hire new again cheapasses

It's complicated, but I'm pretty sure when I walked through the door being college educated for a blue collar job that was automatically three strikes against me. The HR person just didn't get the memo so they got it on the back end.

When the spiritual teacher and his disciples began their evening meditation, the cat who lived in the monastery made such noise that it distracted them. So the teacher ordered that the cat be tied up during the evening practice. Years later, when the teacher died, the cat continued to be tied up during the meditation session. And when the cat eventually died, another cat was brought to the monastery and tied up. Centuries later, learned descendants of the spiritual teacher wrote scholarly treatises about the religious significance of tying up a cat for meditation practice.

and I throw spilled salt over my left shoulder and I try to avoid letting black cats cross my path (I usually call them over to me and pet them so they won't cross my path). For a long time when I was a kid I wouldn't step on cracks in the sidewalk, and I still freak out a little bit if I break a mirror. None of it makes any sense. It's probably a little OCD thing (which I'm not otherwise), or just habit.

I knock on wood. I avoid walking under ladders.

And I always wish on shooting stars.
