We got freezing rain that weighed down the trees and power lines. Then the wind picked up. That's a bad combo. We have a scanner and I've heard several reports of downed power lines and power outages. Now it's starting to snow.

(7,813 posts)I was iced in for a week with no electricity back when I lived in North Carolina. Thank the local utility board for gas water heater, stove, and fireplace. At least we could eat and bathe (in a stone cold bathroom, but the water was hot).
I was glued to the only radio station that had a live DJ who volunteered to stay in the studio and on the air until the Raleigh/Durham/Cary (not everyone knows "Triangle" ) area was back up and running. People called in to give their area and neighborhood conditions, who had power and who didn't. It was our only connection to the world.

Hoping power stays on.
