There's also a great book called No Buddy Left Behind: Bringing U.S. Troops' Dogs And Cats Safely Home From The Combat Zone that describes how it all came about and what they did to gets animals out of Iraq & Afghanistan. It's a quick, nice read. Most stories are happy, but a couple are sad. It's definitely worth the time.
