Tiny Stray Puppy Falls From The Sky -- And Somehow Survives

People couldn't figure out where the puppy cries were coming from — until they looked at the sky 😱

By Caitlin Jill Anders

A couple of construction workers in Texas were going about their day when all of a sudden they heard what sounded like a tiny puppy crying. They quickly began searching the construction site for the source of the sound but came up empty — until they realized the sound was coming from above them.

There, in the sky, was a hawk flying around with a tiny puppy clutched between his claws.

Just as the construction workers realized what was happening above them, the hawk let the puppy go, sending him careening down to the ground. The construction workers immediately ran over to where the Chihuahua puppy had fallen, scooped him up and rushed him to the nearest veterinary practice, crossing their fingers that he would be OK. Since he wasn’t microchipped and no one stepped forward to claim him, the puppy was transferred into the care of Austin Animal Center (AAC).

“When I met this little puppy not long after he came into our shelter, all he wanted was to be held,” Jennifer Olohan, communication and media manager for AAC, told The Dodo. “He was hooked up to an IV to deliver fluids, but despite that he kept trying to walk to the front of his kennel to get to me. I snuggled him as much as I could, being careful of his IV. He’s really just a sweetheart!”

It’s still a mystery as to where Tony Hawk came from — whether he was a stray who’d been born on the streets or someone’s puppy who’d been scooped up from a backyard. Regardless, his shelter family is glad he found his way to them, and they are thrilled that he’s doing so well now. He’s staying with a foster family until he’s old enough to be neutered, and then the shelter will set about finding him the perfect forever family.

My 20 lb. Havanese hates hawks he’ll bark at them when they fly over, bald eagles he hides under bushes or whatever cover he can find. Figure it must be an instinctive reaction, done it since he was a pup.
