The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumsany dolly parton fans here? need recommendations.
so, i gotta say that growing up i was not a country fan. it was the golden age of twang and sequins, and i was a beatle fan. i remember seeing dolly and porter wagner on teevee, and thinking- what a weirdo.
but she and i aged, country changed, and i find myself liking a lot of old country. johnny cash, hank williams, roots stuff.
i liked a lot of her later records.
and i fell in love w her in 9 to 5.
and of course, i see what an amazing person she is.
so, anyway, i keep seeing the apleebees commercial w "here you come again" (?) and thinking i would like to listen to more dolly.
but iirc, she holds the record for the most album ever.
so, help me out fans. recommend.

(113,065 posts)She was burdened with health problems after the release so it didnt get the attention it deserved. The first single did fairly well, Single Bars, Single Women.
MaryMagdaline
(6,855 posts)Does a great version. Refused to give up the song rights, even to Elvis. She employs more people at Dollywood than any other employer in her town. Gives away free books to all children.
Also ... Jolene is a great song.

(15,064 posts)at any local CD/ Vinyl resale store. To hear her sing under Porter's mentoring, when she first came to Nashville, and who she became and is still is today. A liberally progressive, civic minded person who can sing her butt off.

Not to mention the fact that she sure can sing!

(10,434 posts)That's a great movie. Also "9 to 5", good movie but no singing in that one.
