Name a television show that you like but where you think the main character is the weakest character

One that comes to my mind is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Titus (Titus Burgess) and Lillian (Carol Kane) absolutely kill it.

But the Kimmy Schmidt character herself I just find a little weak. Ellie Kemper does a decent job acting, but the way she is written she's a bit too cloyingly childlike. Which arguably is part of her character--she lost part of her childhood after being kidnapped--but it just doesn't work for humor purposes.

Rhoda changed for the wacky comic relief to the straight woman, so her family had to take over all the jokes. So Rhoda became Mary, sort of.

Elizabeth Keen, played by Megan Boone, is awful. She couldn't be worse if she was just holding the script and reading it for the first time on camera.

I was never sure if it was her acting or truly poor character writing. And that freaking wig!!!!! So much potential in that show & I wound up recording it then fast forwarding thru all but Spaders screen time. It was such a missed opportunity.

There wasn't a single weak character on that show. This, despite the fact that most of the cast were in psychedelic full-body animal costumes.

I think all sitcoms with a "straight man" at the center of a circle of loonies run this risk, but there's nothing more annoying than a main character who persistently smirks at his own dialogue.

Right now, the focus of the show is on the main characters' daughter, who has run into some serious problems back in the pre-Revolution-era US. Unfortunately, she is played by the worst fucking actress I have ever seen. She has one facial expression and a voice that also lacks any expression whatsoever.

It's a damn shame, because Outlander is a great show, and the acting, storylines, production values, etc., are all generally first-rate. But every time that woman appears on screen (which is most of the time now, unfortunately), she just takes me right out of it.

I have always wondered what sort of privilege got her on the show, since, as you say, the rest of the cast, the writing, etc., are all first-rate.

She does a pretty credible American accent. Maybe that's what got her the job.

But there must be a million pretty, young, redheaded American actresses who are far more talented. Hell, my cat could do a better job. At least my cat knows how to convincingly act happy or upset.

Peyton Place. A couple years ago, I got the series on DVDs and really enjoyed watching the residents. The biggest star of the show was Mia Farrow's character "Allison". She was so big in the 1960s that her character on the show was big news and when she left... huge news story. She was very popular. In the show, she's a bore. The "Betty" character, "Old Man Peyton" and so many others were much more engaging. "Allison" was awful and one of the least interesting people on the show!

and Kimmy the most. It absolutely works for me.

Lol, i was watching it a few months ago when I started some stupid online phone game and I named my character UnbreakableKS . In the months I've been playing it 1 person has commented how much they like that show - not sure if everyone else hates it or just didn't put together my username. It's completely out of context so might be tough for anyone not watching the show.

I don't think I watch too many shows where I don't care for the main character but there is a new show with Schmidt from the show with Zooey Deschanel and the blonde girl from 2 Broke Girls (they move into a black neighborhood next to Cedric the Entertainer and the mom from Everybody Hates Chris). I just can't stand the blonde broke girl. Didn't like her in 2BGs and don't like her here. The show overall is OK but the lessons are pretty obvious and predictable and I don't think I'll miss it if it gets cancelled. Their kid is a dud too. I know it's possible to have good kid characters because the kids on Life in Pieces are terrific. So are the ones on the new Single Parents show (i think that's what it's called - Robert from Everybody Loves Raymond is one of the main guys and his twin girls are a little scary and hilarious lol)
