I can hardly believe this! I've been depressed lately and a lot of it is watching my mom slowly

die with Aphasia and dementia. I was hospitalized a month or so ago and today I was just feeling bad again and wanted to talk to someone.

So I go here after just sticking "Hotlines" in Google>>>>>

http://www.pleaselive.org/hotlines/

This is supposed to be the same organization that you can call 211 and they will help find you help. I helped with the United Way once and I think they are the ones who own that phone number.

So I pick the Grief hotline, dial the number and some woman answers and then wants to turn me over to someone from........ fucking Focus on the Family! I said wait a minute Is this the organization that James Dobson started and she said "Well, yes it is" I said, "Forget it"

Seriously? The anti-gay anti-choice anti-life people!

(I just recalled the 211 number and spoke with someone and told her about the problem and she said that for certain things they will just Google for you! But someone needs to tell these people that they shouldn't give out listings for actually defined hate groups)

Well it got me out of feeling depressed by realling pissing me off so I guess they did work

Getting treated that way is just awful, even if it did piss you out of your depressed feeling.

I really can't help except to give you this:

I wish I could really help.

Hospice was amazing helpful to me when my husband died. They provided a year of grief
counseling at no charge. You might check with your local hospice for support at such a
difficult time. Sending you loving thoughts.

when I was caring for my mom. A counselor came once a month and it was really nice to talk to some one who got how hard it was.

You were wanting help and comfort on the degenerative diseases that are slowly taking your mom away from you, and also, just to pump up your spirits and energy. What a shame, but like you said, it revitalized you in a sense by getting you pissed off.

I too, would never go to such an organization, for I think they are tainted already, and will always think that there an ulterior motive in them 'helping' you/others. I don't trust them. I've already had have experience w/ a religious org. that my neighbors was going to donate quite a bit of their land to, when they passed on. When they had to sell a portion of the property to cover her nursing home expenses (her husband had already passed and the wife went to live w/ her daughter), the religious organization had a hissy fit.

In the end the org. ended up w/ nothing! The manner in which they treated her, especially in her situation in the nursing home/daughter's home was pathetic.

Wishing you the best, keep your spirits up and please keep us on DU up to speed on you and your Mom...
