Personally, I like a chocolate cake with raspberry filling. I can be talked into most kinds of cake except cheesecake and red velvet cake.
I'm a little more picky when it comes to pie. I don't like cherry, apple and blueberry pie. I like pumpkin and key lime pie.

(804 posts)Although I actually prefer cake, I'm like pumpkin, pecan, blueberry, key lime, lemon meringue or coconut cream pie. I have never liked peach.
My favorite cake of all is yellow, with strawberry and banana filling and whipped cream frosting. Heaven.
For Christmas, I make a pistachio cardamom cake with vanilla bean cream cheese frosting which is sooo tasty (can't take credit - I found the recipe online somewhere several years ago, although I changed the frosting from buttercream to cream cheese) and I regularly make a Spanish Almond cake, which is not terribly cake-like since it uses almond flour instead of wheat flour.
I cut the sugar in almost every dessert recipe by about a third, since I really dislike sugar being the dominant flavor over all the other lovely ingredients.

(34,137 posts)I've been on a low carb diet for several months - it's working, I am almost down to my (interim) target weight, but damn I miss real chocolate baked goods!
My weight had to get down for a surgery - fusion on the L5 vertebrae in my back. I've told my husband that after the surgery he is to buy me a "Death by Chocolate Cake" from the local bakery as my reward for surviving yet another damn surgery. Then I will go back to restricted carbs and as soon as I can exercise I will be putting in miles of walking, either around our farm or in the gym.

(3,275 posts)It is nice to think about your reward when it is over. I hope it is delicious.

(34,137 posts)I'm glad I've lost the weight and now I am motivated to keep losing. Gone from 287 to 230 since October 2017 and hope to get down below 200 by the end of the year.

(37,648 posts)I can take or leave pie. But my favorite is probably lemon meringue. No...cherry pie. No...blackberry pie.
I'm more of a candy person, though.

(6,262 posts)coconut on top. Just on one half for those who hated coconut in our family.
The birthday cake my Mom made just for me. Now need to buy the Pepperidge Farm version in the freezer aisle.
Pie - again with my Mom's chocolate cream pie. She held it over my head like a Damocles Sword until I ate that damn succotash of goddamn turnips and peas.
Always caved. Now carb-conscious geezer yours truly only indulges on my birthday while sending up gratitude for such sweet memories.

(22,270 posts)If we are at a restaurant known for its pies, I can resist anything but coconut cream.
I also like cherry and peach (pie or cobbler), buttermilk, chess and chocolate fudge
If I am not at home and have to choose between pie or cake, I will take the pie.
I bake a lot and am very good with cakes, breads and cookies. Pies not so much, so I do not bake them very often. Therefore they are a great treat if having dinner out
