Anyone give anything up for Lent?

Last edited Thu Mar 7, 2019, 03:07 PM - Edit history (1)

I'm not a christian but I like to give myself a challenge every year. This year I gave up soda. I also made a to do list with a plan to do at least one thing on that list every day. It is mostly little things that I have been procrastinating on. It is day two but so far so good.

Okay, how about this:

One year, I gave up religion for Lent. When Easter rolled around I had forgotten all about it and never went back.

Life has been better ever since then.

I still do every year. I love the idea of changing habits as you get ready for spring.

It's really a pagan practice anyway. To get ready for Easter. (Estrus.)

(plastic wrap, ziploc baggies, etc.). I've been meaning to do it, anyway, and Lent provides a good excuse, even though I haven't been a practicing Catholic for ages.

I do believe that Lent is useful in learning to cultivate the habit of sacrifice, either for your own health or for the greater good.

habit completely, because everyone uses those plastic dishes now. I found a place that uses cardboard containers, so I go there a lot. I'm starting to get used to it now, but it really takes some doing and for me I had to change some pretty strong habits.

and maybe accept that celibacy is not part of Jesus's teachings?

Needed to get back in the groove of working out so 6 weeks ago I started. I haven’t had bread since Saturday. Only two French fries this year. Circus = nonsensical stuff like booze and chips and such. I still have two littles chocolates everyday at work.

Lost 10 lbs as of my last weigh in on Friday but I look and feel completely different. Running (2 miles this morning), swim/lift days, 100 sit-ups a day. Was looking into one more marathon in November right before lunch. We’ll see.

She would completely give up any chocolate every year for lent. However she said that everyone could cheat on St Patricks Day. You could have as much as you wanted. Since I grew up with atheist parents, I thought that was an official rule. I didn't know that she just made it up.

I gave up alcohol one year. I didn't really drink much so it was pretty easy. I realized that I didn't really like alcohol so I never went back. Now, I only have one or two cocktails a year.

So I missed the start of Lent. I think I will give up Trump for Lent. And for every other day of the year. And when this year is over, I will give him up for the next year, and God forbid, if he's still around, he will be on a perpetual ignore list.
