I've seen several of the previews, 'tastes of' and 'Waiting Sucks' promos and this is my 2 cents.
I think this year they are really going to get back into focus with the vampires and sookie. Last year it seemed that the Vampires were being downplayed a bit to give more time to the witches, Arlene & Terry, and various were communities. I mean it's great that we have all these supernaturals but come on, the show is called 'True Blood' - let's focus on the vampires.
I think the biggest thing for season #5 is going to be the return of one of the best villians True Blood has created. I love how one of their spoilers they don't really show that person but just close the clip with the sound of that very distinctive laugh, kinda like the end of Episode I of Star Wars when you heard the familiar Darth Vadar breathing.
Of course the biggest question is whether or not Tara survived the shot to the brain by Debbie Pelt. The only thing we see is Sookie looking a bit freaked out while burying someone - is that Debbie Pelt's dead carcass or could the only way of saving Tara is to turn her into what she hates - a Vampire.
It does seem there will be storylines involving the shifters, the werewolves and even Arlene & Terry (plus their new friend) but it seems like these stories will have more connection with the vampires - we shall see.
I saw a clip of the Brujo face that Jesus would turn into. Although Jesus died at the end (and will be greatly missed) one wonders if somehow he was able to transfer this dark magic to Lafayette. I love that Lafayette didn't die the end of Season #1 like he did in the book. He has become one of the best characters in "True Blood"
Also glad to have back Steve Newlin, the anti-vampire preacher now turned Vampire. I wonder who turned him? But he reminds me of some of those RL anti-gay preachers that turn out to be closet homosexuals (aks Ted Haggard). Nice storyline twist.
Finally, I have not seen anything of the were-panthers of Hot Shots. Let's hope that storyline is dead and buried forever.

(102,408 posts)but, I could not be more thrilled that Russell Edgington, the supposedly "dead" Vampire King is coming back (at least I think he is). I love him! Deliciously vampy

(95,337 posts)I thought the beginning of the season the motorcycle was all gased up and ready to make that jump but somewhere after episode 8, they gave up jumping. By then that Arlene/Terry and their strange baby storyline was wrapped up and Hot Shots was long behind us. Even the porn-like sex scenes with Eric and Sookie seemed to calm down a bit. I was so excited when those 2 hooked up but then after awhile their sex looked like something I'd find late nights on Cinemax and not an episode of True Blood. Sookie and Eric kinda reminded me of Maddie & David from Moonlighting - you love it when they were fighting with each other because there was so much fricking chemistry between the two but after they hooked up it got kinda boring.
pretty soon, only you and I and a few others will "get" the Moonlighting reference comparison (which I agree is quite apt)...

(12,132 posts)and I know the "book" answers to some of those questions up there but I don't want to spoil anything AND we all know they don't follow the books religiously so I may not know squat.
And also how the Sookie/Eric thing turns out...it's defined in the books so we'll have to see how the show follows that.
I play a dumb game online that has to do with vampires and my character name is Edgington. I also have generals named Sookie and Northman. lol
Oh and yeah, Once they got together, Moonlighting got less fun.

(3,836 posts)The previews are enticing and I am with you, it looks like the focus is gong to be where it should be. I really want to find out who turned Steve - seeing him as a vamp was one of my favorite moments at the end of last season. Also I am really wondering about Tara.. I remember discussing how intense it would be if it had been the hated Pam who saved Tara's life by turning her. Wheeee!
Waiting DOES suck
P.S. I get the Moonlighting reference
edited to add the p.s.

(5,909 posts)I'm glad for the summary. It seems so long between seasons I forget everything that happened. But don't forget about the Jason/Jessica/Hoyt love triangle! Yikes!

(95,337 posts)Which is a shame because Jim Parrack is a talented actor. But without Jessica what can they do with Hoyt?

(21,910 posts)he is just too "law and order" for me and I can't see him doing anything else. I hope he doesn't spoil it for me. I love True Blood
