5 months after losing our best buddy, we adopted a new friend

She has come into our lives and made it whole again. Our house was so quiet after losing our dog. The grief came in waves and was so powerfully intense at times. Our best friend of 13 years left us and we were devastated. The chance to adopt a new family member happened out of the blue and has really been so amazing. She has only been with us a month, but it feels like she has always been here.

Dogs are the best. ❤️

...bring animals into our lives, knowing full well that we will outlive them.

He also offered the reassuring opinion that it is in no way disrespectful to the furry friend to whom you had to say goodbye, to bring another buddy into the family. Rather, it is a way to honor that animal, by providing a loving home to someone else who needs one.

I never refer to a new cat in the family as a "replacement," because that, of course, is not possible. I call them "successors."

I find that a part of my heart feels so empty because there is love to give that has no where to go, that needs someone to attach itself to. A new kitty gives that free-floating love somewhere to land.

How wonderful that you are feeling whole again What is her name?

And who says dogs and cats don't pick their families?

A neighbor lost their dog of many years and swore that was the last pet they'd ever have. But...one day I was walking a foster dog past their house as they were getting out of their truck. The dog bolted toward them, tearing the leash out of my hand. The woman sat in a lawn chair and the pup jumped up in her lap. The man sat in another chair and the dog jumped over to him and plastered him with puppy kisses. It's been three years and the dog is still there. He is so loved - he knew they were waiting for him even if they didn't.

We're not yet ready for another doggie. With five cats we may never get another one. Doggies ARE wonderful, though, and I love them.

We had the same thing happen when our Catahoula/Siberian died in 1/18. At the end of Dec. a friend sent me an email from a person at his work who needed to find a new home for her Aussie Shepherd as he was very unhappy being in a crate 22-24 hrs./day and was shrieking. We got him the day after Christmas and it feels like he's been here forever. He hugs and cuddles and plays with us all the time and has bonded big time with both my husband and me. We are still working on getting him integrated with our 3 cats because his previous owners siced him on cats (grrrrr). He doesn't chase them and bark like he did at first but he's still jealous and shrieks at them if they are coming to us. He's really smart so we are hoping he'll get over this with enough coaching. If not, I'll be calling around to trainers.

But, yes, dogs are awesome and I'm happy you and we have doggy love back in our lives.

We lost our two dogs in the span of six months, a 13 and 14 year old. So terrible, and the grief does come in waves. So when we were ready, we adopted a rescue who is a rat terrier/italian greyhound/cattle dog mix. Hi energy, an incredible runner, sharp as a tack, and so lovable. She keeps us physically active with walks every day.

So, so happy for you.

to unendurable. Another one has left our lives, but another has come into it. We now have Scout. She turned eight months on March 10. We have had her since January. I agree with the Vet that the new ones are not replacements but instead join us to honor the ones that have left. Dogs are the best, for sure. 💕💕

Our puppy was a surprise about 8 years ago, and I can't believe I had only ever had cats before her... doggos have a very different love. Our kitten even bonded with her and now they are playmates for life
