I heard somebody say that colorizing pictures like these puts us in the moment and removes the barrier of time, so to speak. It humanizes the subjects in the photos so we can identify with them.

I liked it when it was shown as black and white, looks great in color.
Reminds me very much of a similar old country store somewhere around Anniston, Al. that I saw way back in 1964. Only place where I saw cigarettes being sold singly...5 cents for 2 cigs.
they were only maybe 30 cents a pack at the time.

I discovered that most of the soda brands were created down here, or rather in Georgia.

Just a few minutes ago, I saw a lil town called Pull Tight, few miles north of Tuscaloosa, as I was tracking an apparent tornado cell crossing
US 22.
had to look up a name like that.right?

..."from a term mule drivers used when they had to get the mule team to pull together to get up a difficult hill".

I've been here for ages, still find it endlessly fascinating.

Quincy FL. Mr. Monroe owned the Quincy State Bank. When the farmers came to get their farm loans he made them invest in Coke. He made a lot of them very rich.

My parents bought a house from his granddaughter.

Marshall's photo oil colors and pencils. Sold quite a few of them, too.

Truth is, I preferred the look of hand colored, because I much better control over the texture and color. And b&w film and paper was much cheaper than color.

Some of these are excellent, although I don't know how they would look on the wall.

have seen. Those photos really "bring" one to that time in a way the paintings really can't--no matter how well done.
