I decided to do a little clearing, while the weather was "good" (54 degrees with light rain). Up until a few days ago, there was still some ice and snow covering the front flower bed. I picked up a clump of something very soggy, and there I found this very unexpected rose bud.

(26,268 posts)Or, maybe a celestial Spring greeting from my sister. She was the one who got me into gardening. And this is from my pink rose bush. She went full tilt into the Pink color scheme, after her breast cancer diagnosis.

Thats cool to think it may have come from your sis. Nature works in mysterious ways sometimes!
from your sister was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic.
How very sweet. What a treasure.

(67,782 posts)When we moved into our house 15 years ago we had a scrawny, ugly rose bush with a few stalks. I wanted to pull it out, but my wife decided to save it. Now after all this time it's STILL scrawny and ugly, but we get about 20 roses each year, 5-6 at a time through the fall.

(118,677 posts)fall and someone had trimmed all the rose bushes. There were hundreds and hundreds of perfect stemmed roses on the ground. I went home and got a garbage bag and scisors and started filling it. They were every colour you could imagine. Other ladies soon joined me.Then I brought them home and made bouquets and hung some of them to dry.
