Can't blue jean manufacturers make a pair of blue jeans to fit a mature woman's figure?
I'm 62. I'm of average height. (5'6" . I'm not skinny, but I'm not obese, either. I have curves.
Every. Damn. Time. I go to buy blue jeans, I try on a dozen pairs, and when I find one that fits me everywhere else, the waist is so big I could stuff a sofa pillow inside the waist band. Oh there's always the "low rise" kind, they're even worse. You spend the whole day feeling like your pants are falling off you.
I hate wearing belts, because you get that ugly bulge right under your belly button when you wear a t shirt over your jeans. Plus the extra fussing around with the buckling.
And don't get me started on t shirts and tops. If you're a woman who has a little bit of endowment on the top, they fit you like a second skin, unless you buy one so large that the shoulders droop halfway down to your elbows.
I suppose there are custom tailored places that will make a pair of jeans to one's exact specifications, but I don't have that kind of money.
Am I asking too much here????

(4,609 posts)Their sizing system is so simple and rational. We sound similar in size and shape. I switched over to men's in hs and never looked back.
I could rant for hours about the craziness of sizing on women's clothes. It's ridiculous.

The mens sizing does make a lot more sense, especially as far as lengths.

(11,572 posts)I understand your concerns. Women come in many sizes and shapes. Have you tried looking for denim trousers?
Here are a couple of links for jeans without belt loops:

(11,572 posts)If you don't want to do online ordering, there might be stores in your area that carry trouser jeans and shirts for women with a large bust. It can be aggravating trying to find clothing that fits well and meets your needs. One suggestion if you do decide to order online and you're not familiar with the manufacturer is to order a couple of sizes to see what fits best and return what doesn't. It's not a perfect solution but you might find something you like with the correct fit. Good luck with your shopping. I'm a petite and many of the retailers have sharply cut back or completely eliminated their petite departments. I have to have nearly everything altered. I feel your pain.

(22,117 posts)I buy men's jeans to wear around the farm from Tractor Supply. Usually $12. And they fit at the real waist.
As for anything nicer, I also hate those low rise things, and feel like I'm always losing them. They're uncomfortable. I hate going to elastic waists for "mature" women, but who is going to notice if you have a t-shirt or sweater on?
Don't get me started on tops. The sizing is all over the map.
athletic pants or whatever they call them these days, fit a lot better. But sometimes you need a nice pair of jeans.
Womens clothing sucks. You never know what size you wear.

(11,686 posts)as you can't see mine because I always wear shits that hang down and never tuck. My big problem is when the buckle touches my skin I break out because I am allergic to nickle and 98% of belt buckles are made with nickle and the ones that are not are very expensive ( like $30 ) so I can not afford them. I have to try and fold my pants over the buckle and tried putting clear nail polish on it and that does not work. I more like fear wearing them when I have to. Most of the time I am constantly pulling my pants up constantly.

(32,675 posts)... speaking as a woman well north of 30, I haven't worn them - ever. I don't want to display my belly button or my middle-aged flab to the unsuspecting public. In my younger days they hadn't invented those horrible low-rise things yet, and I'm so happy I don't have to wear them now.
I only purchase stretch jeans with the mid-rise or natural waist style, and they are sometimes hard to find. Stores that carry them usually sell out quickly. The jeans I buy do have belt loops but I ignore them. I almost never wear a belt on my jeans, even though I could. So my point is that it's the stretch material that makes the jeans fit in the waist and fanny. Don't buy them too small because they shrink in the washing machine. However stretch material (if it's good quality) will return to the correct shape when you wear the washed jeans.

(32,018 posts)the manufacturers would realize that there are lots of baby boomers out there who DONT want low rise pants. We shouldnt have to search to the ends of the earth to find them!

(32,675 posts)I've had pretty good luck on Amazon though. Just beware of the funky Chinese sizes, if you know what I mean.

(115,777 posts)Since I usually don't tuck in my top it doesn't matter, and I'm comfortable. Now that I'm old I care only that my clothes are comfortable, since nobody, including me, gives a crap what I look like.

(32,018 posts)Comfort and looking decent seem to be opposing concepts these days. And believe me, Im far from the trendy type.

(4,609 posts)Many years ago I had a pair of pants from Old Navy and they were my absolute favorite. They were cut like jeans, light beige, and a brushed cotton material, almost like velvet. They washed beautifully, too. I finally looked at the tag one day and found out they were maternity, lol! I didn't even know ON made maternity stuff. They had small, well hidden sections of elastic on both sides of the waistband.
How I miss those pants. The most comfy I have ever owned.

(16,384 posts)I'm 5'3" and quite long-waisted, so all clothes are a struggle. I can't wear petites due to my long torso which means I have to hem everything. I have found some long tees that look good; Duluth makes some but they're $$$.

(10,130 posts)There were little straps inside the waistband that that could expand or contract so they lasted longer. They never seemed bulky not did they ever complain about them.
Maybe they make such a thing for adults?
I think I am in the minority here, cause I like belts. Suspenders feel like the pajamas to a job interview of life to me. No offense.
I kid!

(34,462 posts)Relaxed fit is a euphemism for small waist-relative-to-hips. They come in high rise and you can choose your inseam length to some extent.
It's hard to know exactly what "relaxed fit" means sometimes since it varies from brand to brand.

(12,265 posts)I am not tiny but I have curves, and a waist. To get them to fit my hips, I have to have a belt because the waist is to big. I hate buying clothes at my age, 64 years young. I would rather have a root canal.

(32,018 posts)with your root canal comment! I heartily agree!

(34,112 posts)easy hacks for this problem. I did not bookmark them but I bet you can find them easily. It involves making a dart on both sides and stitching with a slip stitch. You can then pull the stitch and it pulls it all together. There is a video showing you how to do it so it is hidden by the side seam and it looks so easy to do. I have not tried it but like I said, it looks easy and it looks like it works quite well.

(17,308 posts)Buy a pair of the ones that fit except for the waist then bite the bullet and take them to a tailor to make them perfect. It may well double the cost. But one pair of perfect jeans will be ever so much better than two pairs that just piss you off every time you put them on 😉

(2,945 posts)and I still couldn't find anything to fit. I did find a decent substitute, however. No Nonsense denim leggings. The denim is lighter than regular jeans. I like a high waist and these are just below the belly button but I don't have to wear a belt. They lack any meaningful pockets but they are form fitting. I bought my first pair at the grocery store -- $12. Wash with Woolite and keep out of dryer. The pair I wear for "good" I've had 5 years. They also make Capri pants and cut-offs. You can also buy on-line. I'm tall and the leggings are long length, not the high-water style that Spanx makes. Hope this helps.

(55,016 posts)but in the last year or so I found lightweight stretch jeans fromt he fat lady catalog and I gotta say...wow! one type really fits nice and they are comfortable as anything. unfortunately I am feuding with the company at the moment so I can't actually recommend them. good thing I bought 4 pair before our disagreement.
