Whitepages (the web site)--Is that the best way to find a phone number?

I used to be able to call the operator and get a number. Now you have to sign
up with a credit card and pay a fee for one number. Ugh.
Is there a better way?

personally, i just google the phone number.

if it's a legitimate company, it's usually quite obvious who it is.

if it's a personal number, either my phone recognizes it or it's a wrong number or it's a long-lost friend who won't mind leaving a message.

i don't feel the need to investigate the wrong number dialer, so google is usually fine for me.

And it'll come up (with choices). Then pick call or go to their website. Thats the easiest way.

There was also LinkedIn which you have join. No easy way I can find to

https://www.whitepages.com/

I entered the last name I was looking for and the area code. The person I was looking for was the fourth entry in the results.

Mind you, the person I was looking for has a landline. I am guessing that that makes the difference because their cell number was blurred out. Perhaps your friend has a cell phone and/or is not listed.

I bit on the 1 dollar for five days offer. The number was no good. It seems that
every search I've tried to do for several years has been the same---no luck.

Got some good numbers but got many that were very out of date.
Cost me $5.
