(6,843 posts)It helps going home with the pain under control.

(14,643 posts)Its my second rodeo. Went home the same day this time ... honestly made no difference, except that I was glad to be home. The food really sucked too.

(14,643 posts)That you dont want to wait too long. Do it while you can still walk without a limp and youll have a better recovery.

(70,120 posts)why suffer for nothing.
and yeah, the longer you go, the more likely you will lose muscle along the way. that will make it harder to recover.
trying to figure out how bad i am gonna let mine get before i do it. not long. just really starting to crumble, but i wont hang on long once it starts to hurt every day. i have fibro, and the pain just lays me out. as soon as i can get a doc to go along, i'm in.

(13,259 posts)Had them done One at a time, both in the last six months. Results are wonderful, but I now I see that I could have been pain-free and super active maybe five years earlier.
I would say DO IT, dont wait until the very last minute. But whenever you do it, great!

(22,133 posts)hopefully you'll be 'kicking up' a storm at home when you get there. Until then, rest easy at the hospital, best wishes for a full and complete recovery, and hope that the phy. therapy isn't too difficult!!

So aren't you happy to have a brand new metal leg?

(51,608 posts)My dog needed a new hip but since she is 7 pounds they don't make the parts that small. The vet was a magician and used remaining parts (along with water therapy) and she was almost like new. I am glad you found a part that "fits".

(16,672 posts)Best thing I ever did. Totally changed my life and mood.
The recovery can be tough but know it'll be so worth it down the line. Keep that leg straight is the best advice I can give you. Getting mine straight over time was the hardest part.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

(15,412 posts)early! While you are still on the good drugs. I got my knee 7 months ago and that was the best advice I got. Bend and get it straight is what you will be doing for the next 6 weeks of so. I know you want to rest but bend and straighten!
I'm glad I did it. The only thing I can't do now is kneel but since I'm not Catholic and my gardening days are behind me. who cares?

(2,559 posts)Was diagnosed with moderate osteoarthritis last year. Had to use a cane to walk for a while. Had first steroid shot in December, seems to have helped. Also taking Astaxanthin 12 mg/day, which also seems to help.
I am having trouble with some gardening moves... seems to come and go. I'm trying to retire so I can devote more time to walking, bicycling to build up leg muscles. Kind of creeps up on ya.

(63,221 posts)What made you decide to go ahead and get it done? I have a feeling I will need to get at least one of mine replaced, if not both, but I'm holding out until absolutely necessary.
How long will you be laid up for? Hope you feel better soon!
Drahthaardogs
(6,843 posts)I have had torn ligaments replaced on the knee and other surgeries (sports related). Dr. said it was about as bad as a knee can get. I always said I would not replace it for pain, but when I started to list function it had to go.
I am actually up and walking on it some today.

(63,221 posts)The fact that you are able to walk on it at all is incredible. Wishing you the best of luck with your recovery!
