What's with the "stories" when I open Facebook?

It has my photos and then any new posts that "a friend" or from a site that I kinda follow.

Some of these friends are very prolific. Also some of the sites.

"Stories are photos and videos that are visible for 24 hours When someone adds to a story it will show up here."

Except that some stories that I follow are not there.

How can I delete this feature?

I don't get anything at all like that when I open FB. However, I don't "follow" any person or organization, which might possibly be what's going on with you. I have a number of FB friends, and I see posts from them most of the time.

What does make me a bit crazy is that every time I open it I get different stuff. I wonder if there's a way to consistently see the same posts from others.

and during the weekend there are beautiful pictures. Can't say that I follow, they just pop when I open it.

The other is a friend of a friend who is an artist, so constantly post works of art and sometimes I "like them" to be polite.

So I sent an SOS to family members - their posts are really the only ones that I follow - and step by step - I clicked on one of the "stories" and there was a Mute option - and that was it. The whole frame is gone.
