Oh yeah!

He turned down a salary, asked for payment for expenses instead.

His expenses were ten times what his salary would have been.

he tried to pull the same shit in his second term, congress said no. They paid him a salary,

"Parson" Weems had a habit of making up stories, including about himself.

Really don't know about his salary, background, etc. Except this: He did a good/great job as President of the United States. Why say this? If he was a terrible leader, (which he wasn't) there would be no United States of America...period,
..If he was totally dishonest, no integrity, no ability to lead, not trusted, stupid, lack of education, evil, etc. there would be no United States. That first few years, was very important for the building of this country. Its institutions, abilities, character, etc. The Articles of Confederation which preceded the U.S. Constitution were deeply flawed.
..The fact that Washington was genuinely respected as our first and reliable leader to get this idea going was a stroke of luck. It worked. There was another, Madison, and one of the brightest and most dedicated was third. Thomas Jefferson.
..Washington helped to get this idea going. To argue about his salary, is like saying Washington didn't do any good for this country and he only cared about himself......
...That is who the president is now, not George Washington.
