The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI think David Grohl is one of the best musicians our country has to offer today!
I know that's a pretty hefty statement and I'm talking about today's active musicians. But he just seems like such a down to earth player and he managed to go from one of the most major bands of all time and still turn it around to create another great rock band. Nirvana is a pretty tough act to follow and yet I think Foo Fighters done just that.
I love the video of him singing "Ramble On" with Jimmy Page on Guitar and John Paul Jones on Bass. He looked like a lil school boy meeting an astronaut or president. He just had such glee and passion with his performance.

(5,909 posts)Did you see "Back and Forth" yet? Great doc on the making of Wasted Light. Foos were great on the SNL finale.

(100,079 posts)Dave Grohl does indeed kick ass - I saw them live last year - they played a good 3 1/2 hours and not a dull moment in between.
And "Wasting Light" was not just one of the best albums of last year - it's one of the best albums in a long, long time.

(8,419 posts)I did see a movie on a flight with Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack (?) White. Good movie, was great to see interaction between The Edge and Page. The Edge had a HUGE amount of reverence for Page, and Jimmy came across as a guy who just wanted to jam, with any decent musician at anytime. White came across as a bit of a dick. I can see Grohl having a great amount of reverence and excitement in regards to being able to sit in with Page and JPJ.
On edit, just checked it out. That was classic! "Welcome to the greatest fucking day of my whole entire life."

(10,098 posts)Hi,
The Foo is being fought, I love me some Dave Grohl. Two shows that are out there, a long concert on Letterman in which they wear Beatles type suits on the Ed Sullivan stage, and the Skin Bones DVD are outstanding, huge band with strings and some great musicians.
Plus he is a really funny guy.
Peace

(8,646 posts)but I'll agree Dave Grohl is impressive. I do like the Foo Fighters but my heart really was with Nirvana (Can't help it, I was 16 when Smells Like Teen Spirit came out). I'm just glad Dave Grohl went on to make some more great music. And everytime I see an interview with him, I like him as a person even more.

(22,143 posts)They're a little too poppy for my taste but they are one of few bands that do hard rock anymore.
