this is merely a vent.
Tried to see if I was eligible for auto insurance. Spent a ton of time on the website and gave a ton of personal information to them ONLY to be told I was already a member (for which they can find no record!) so I had to call - using a phone.
Ridiculous phone tree! At least 6 button presses, none of which referred to why I was calling but I get a human at last. Explain everything to her. She asks a billion questions but can't find the answer. Transferred. Explain everything to 2nd human who spends some time clacking on the computer to verify what I've just said. . Repeat two more times at which point I think I am REALLY going to get transferred to the right person (I have hope, he seemed sincere) only to be placed on hold...and then hung up on.
IF THIS IS ANY INDICATION OF THEIR AUTO INSURANCE SERVICE, no thanks. And I never got to the survey I agreed to answer at the end of the call.
I am getting emails from them already and have unsubscribed.
Thanks for letting me vent.

(182,806 posts)For auto and home. I'd heard really good things at least in terms of rates.

try VERY hard never to lose that eligibility (whether from inadvertent cancellation or whatever).
Perhaps they are shifting more to automation, which would be a pity, but once you do get a person, they SHOULD be able to help you.
If you are or have served on active duty or are the spouse or child of someone who has, you should be eligible.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)and they cannot find anyone associated with my number but they also can't find me. And I can't rejoin because I am already a member. I have never had insurance with them.

(4,935 posts)I've had excellent experience with them. When I've had to make claims I walk out of the claim center with a check in my hand, right then. When my car was hit while parked, they pursued the police report and later I got a check from them for the deductible I had to pay up front.
Everyone and every company has some bad days, I would really take what someone else suggested and get this issue up to a supervisor or manager. Sounds like someone may have fat-fingered some data entry.

(278 posts)always gone with them for our auto loans. Their rates are fantastic and I have never had a problem with customer service at all.

(2,336 posts)Love USAA myself. I've been frustrated on phone calls mostly because it's nearly impossible to prove who you are any more. They'll ask questions I cannot answer about where I lived before etc. I've been really frustrated after a call, but I'm happy as can be with their services otherwise. I do all my banking on my phone, and get annual dividends, also they refund ATM fees (up to a certain number but I don't know what that number is, maybe 10 or 15 a month?).
just my two cents

(16,334 posts)it's nice to hear that from so many people.

(2,538 posts)Home and auto insurance. They were helpful with a collision (not at fault) I had this past winter. Offered to act on my behalf if the at-fault party gave me any trouble.

(10,749 posts)Their customer service used to be second to none. Personal, professional, fast.
Now? Not so much. Spotty at best. Sometimes good, sometimes not. Auto insurance has been hit the worst. Life insurance is good, though even there they have issues. Much more bureaucratic than they used to be. Inevitable I suppose. But still unfortunate.

(16,334 posts)Maybe it's like hlthe2b said above some sort of computer glitch. I understand that. Then you think one person could have said hmmm let me check into this and call you back. They already had all of my contact info, personal info, etc. Instead, I got the pass the buck treatment and then the click.
I may call back when the scar heals.

(31,159 posts)for auto and property. No one can really beat their rates.
I have to admit that trying to get through to them has recently been daunting.

(6,797 posts)I have had excellent service with them on all levels. Even have my pets insured via USAA. If you are eligible, sign up.

(34,136 posts)Since he is a veteran they thought it might be good. I don't have the details, but they were seriously disappointed in the coverage and the service. They have now changed insurance and don't plan on going back.
