Fuck Robocallers! (Thank goodness for Nomorobo!)

My phone seemed unusually quiet today. My free Nomorobo service was doing its job well.

Occasionally a robocaller will get past the Nomorobo gate... but today, it was 100% effective.

The sad part is... when I logged in to my provider's portal (to review my incoming calls) it turns out that EVERY caller today was a robocaller. Two an hour from 9 until 5... everyone of them... BLOCKED!!

So, to the robocallers, I'd just like to say:

PS: In case you've never heard of it, here's info about Nomorobo

2. My internet provider, Sonic, defaults my settings to Nomorobo, but I still get around 4 calls a day.

I'm sure I'd be getting more if I didn't have Nomorobo, but the calls still keep coming every day.

Yeah... it's not 100% perfect, but it helps. Because it's crowd-sourced (basically) the Nomorobo database of bad-actors can't keep up with how often the robocallers change their numbers. But once they've detected the number that's being used, it's blocked for everyone else (for that day/week.)

"Hi! I'm Grace, a hearing specialist on a recorded line. Can you hear me okay? Hello? Are you there?"

"Hello! This is Rachel, I'm work in the vacation rewards department, and this is a recorded line. How are you today? Hello? Are you there?"

6. Yeah... that's the paid version for cell phones. I've seen the same as you.

But the free version for landlines and VOIP "landlines" is about as good as it gets.

For cell phones, my son installed YouMail on my phone. They have a paid version and a free version. The paid version has a lot of bells and whistles that many may find useful, but for me (and my husband) the free version works just fine for filtering junk calls.

My son configured it so that it AUTOMATICALLY REJECTS any call that claims to be from my area code and exchange. A tactic that scammers use to appear as though they're "local".

But... it also ALLOWS all calls from anyone in my contact list. And... if the call is legitimate and "blocked" in error... it's directed to my cell phone's voicemail. NOBODY who's been blocked has ever left a voicemail. NO LEGITIMATE callers have ever been blocked (in my case, although I'm sure it's probably happened).

7. How to answer spam phone calls...

When you have spare time to kill....

-----------------------------

How to answer spam phone calls...

Keep asking: What is your name?
... until you get an answer.

What is your company/org name?
... until you get an answer.

What is your company/org address?
... until you get an answer.

What is your company/org phone number?
... until you get an answer.

What number can I get in contact with you?
... until you get an answer.

So what if they lie?
You're just going to hang up on them anyway.
Even better if you say 'sorry, not interested'.
.
Their time is also important to them.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=this+is+lenny (a collection of Lenny calls)

Lenny is a collection of pre-recorded responses from an actor pretending be a hard-of-hearing and doddering old man. Very well done and so realistic that the "Lenny" calls are legendary.

9. Try this... "First Ring Suppressor" device

We purchased two of these and they work beautifully. The first ring (that's shared by your phone AND with Nomorobo) is suppressed on YOUR phone.

I see that they're currently out of stock, but bookmark the link and try again later.

I happened to be signed into Amazon when I read this, so I just added it to my wish list, and I will keep an eye on it.

12. If I have Nomorobo, will my number be blocked?
Sun Jun 16, 2019, 04:11 AM
Jun 2019

I get robo calls with my own # being used. If they use my phone # and it gets added to the data base, does that mean my number will be blocked if I call someone with Nomorobo?

14. Depends on if they're using it ONE time to call just you...

Depends on if they're using it ONE time to call just you... or if you're the unlucky and innocent person whose number gets used as a false caller-ID number.

If your number has been added to the Nomorobo database, and then you call someone who's using nomorobo, you'll hear a message asking you to press a number (or numbers) in order to complete your call. By proving that you're a human, your call will then be redirected back to the party you're calling.

ALSO... if your number is wrongfully blocked, the party you're calling can log-in to their Nomorobo account to report a valid number is being blocked in error.
