I remember Sean Penn guest VJ’ing on MTV and he played a Tom Waits video. I seem to remember he was leading a parade of misfits down what looked like the streets of LA.

I learned decades later, Tom Waits wrote The Piano Must Be Drinking with Dan Hicks in mind. Misfit extraordinaire, Dan Hicks performed the song for years before he actually recorded it in 2000. The album, Beating The Heat, also has a Hicks/Waits duet titled, I'll Tell You Why That Is. I always assumed Waits wrote it, but I just learned Hicks did, which just goes to show they were totally on the same wavelength.

The Charlatans were doing Acid Tests way before they even invented the Acid Tests.

Oh, but to have been a fly on the wall in Virginia City in 1965.

I really enjoyed Tom Waits in "The Dead Don't Die". If you like Waits, Adam Driver, and zombies see that movie!

Fernwood was the mythical setting for the show. American absurdism, send up daytime soaps.
