Designed by Yamagata-born, Tokyo-based industrial designer Ken Okuyama, who is known for his work with Porsche, Ferrari, and Maserati, this luxury train takes passengers on two- to four-day journeys through Eastern Japan's forests, fields, and coastline. It's operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
The train includes two glass-walled observatory cars (one at the front and one at the back), a lounge car, dining car, and six cars that house 17 private suite cabins.

(182,883 posts)Bookmarking. My wife hasn't had a real vacation in two years - parents moving and now is moving - and I want to find a really BIG vacation for her next year. Thanks this got the wheels rolling.
Marked and bookmarked.

They also provide excursions (like you would find on a cruise ship).

(15,154 posts)It was exceptional in every way! Long flights though. We flew to Amsterdam for a few days first. If I had it to do again, I would bite the bullet and go there in one long day instead of several. The accommodations were lovely, the food was very good, and our guide was beyond expectations!

(15,154 posts)My husband did the research about which parks he wanted to see, they gave him some guidance, and then they put it all together. It was just the four of us (another couple - good friends) in the Land Cruiser. So, not a bus full. May was a good month to go. Saw lots of animals, good weather, not crowded, and half the price of high season, which begins June 1st.
