And here's another beautiful arthropod, the Golden Tortoise Beetle:



Unlike the beautiful blue spiders, these are common and can be found throughout most of North America. They look like little drops of molten gold.

in the air that way ? Sensing heat ? Wind ? Prey ?

Also, what scale is this ? Without anything near him to judge, I can't guess how big he is.

Just curious. But yes, he is lovely.

I went on a walk today and took pics here and there. I saw a wonderful spider web with the big spider right there and took 3 pics from different angles. Later in the day I put the pics on my computer and went through them and came to the 3 pics and thought what the heck did I take these for? I didn't see anything on them, so I deleted them. Just now when I saw this post and spider, I remembered what the pics were of.

Dang, I deleted them already.

12. SE Colorado just had a major tarantula migration.

They were crawling all over La Junta looking for love. It was such a big deal Governor Polis went down to check it out and posted photos and info. on his FB. I'm all for live and let live, but I don't think I'd go camping down there right now.
