Novelty songs can any oldsters remember any titles?
Remember When people would make records occasionally where they would pretend to be for example a reporter interviewing politicians or somebody else and then the reporter would ask the question and then a reply would be a clip from a song that was popular at the time.
for instance I remember in one search recording, the reporter ask a Democrat where he met somebody and the response was from Elviss song In the ghetto.
Anyone know of any titles of any of these?

(14,118 posts)As far as actual titles I recall Purple People Eater by Ray Stevens. A search of Ray would show up lots of his songs like Harry The Hairy Ape, Ahab The Arab and The Streak.
There was Allan Sherman who wrote Hello Muddah Hello Fadduh and Close Cover Before Striking.
I remember seeing the performance of Close Cover Before Striking on tv when I was in 6th grade/12
years old in 1961 and laughing about it with my classmates in school. It took me a lot of searching to track that down.
I remember the question/musical response songs. As a pre-teen I thought they were hilariously creative!
Search the Smothers Brothers. They did a lot of funny stuff. I remember a short bit titled The Slitheree Dee.
I remember a song titled Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight, out of England
I remember parodies of The Untouchables and various comedy talking songs, especially one that goes "first the wind blew her hair in her face, then the wind blew her hair in my face, then the wind blew her hair in the street."
Of course there's Cheech and Chong (I had their album Big Bambu) and I recall a parody of Star Trek but then in those days I was laughing at everything
I miss that type of comedy. But then we can revisit it whenever we wish! Happy searching!

My best buddy and I even made one up about prominent senior students to be played at graduation rehearsal, where everybody lined up in the cafeteria before going to the gymnasium. Most thought it was pretty funny.

(25,380 posts)I remember the other ones too. And I remember, "In the ghetto" in one of those novelty songs, but I can't place it. It seems the Watergate and election parodies didn't catch on as well, but I remember them.
Buddah records made the Moonflight song and it comprised of mostly bubble gum songs. Novelty songs were popular among younger teens and preteens and maybe that is why it was popular.

. . .way back in the late 1970s.
Numerous college and "alternative radio/rock stations", including my favorite at the time, WLIR-FM, hosted these segments.
As a little extra something, WLIR-FM used to add a song afterwards that fit in with the theme. Sometimes they even added a comedy segment with George Carlin, Robert Klein or others smack in the middle of the song.
Here's one I recall, plus the extra song. There are others News Blimps available on YouTube. Enjoy!!!

One in particular though he took off the show due to the subject matter.
"Kinko the Clown."
