I have someone coming to clean them Friday.
Have any of you had gutter guards put on,?
I got a bid of $495 for leaf guard. But then another sales person showed up and they do some kind of fancy gutter guard. My little house us 750 sq. ft. The fancy system would cost 3 to 4 thousand.
I know nothing about all of this.

(6,568 posts)for MUCH cheaper. They snap on, no tools required. Probably cost you all of $50-75. I know it was around $60 for my house when I priced it out.

(6,798 posts)like way too much. We are having someone come out next week for an estimate. We have a two-story house. Will let you know what our estimate is. I would go with leaf guard.

(16,065 posts)For $600. 1900 sq ft house.
That pricing is way too much. Leaf guards are easy to install.

(18,868 posts)The expensive system sales guy said the cheaper leaf guards are worthless. The leaves just fall on top of them and then you have to have them snapped off and cleaned and that costs more.
It may just make more sense to just have them cleaned 2x a year. After the initial cleaning for $110 it is $75 each time to have them cleaned every 6 months.
It's a moat point. I can't afford $4,000 .

(1,156 posts)For years I tried everything. I cleaned my own gutters, I tried the snap on kind (which often I couldn't get to snap on), I tried every kind the hardware store had to offer. Meanwhile I was getting older and older. Finally I got a quote from Leaf Filter. I could see that their design was just what I needed. The quote came back as $7000 (my house is about twice your size). Yes I knew it was excessive but I got it anyway. This was about 5 yrs. ago. I have never regretted it. I have not had to cleaned the gutters since. I don't even think about them. To me it was worth it.

(37,449 posts)I put them on my back garage which is on a wood line. Those gutter guard people are rip offs gave me a crazy price for doing 2-24ft long sections. I've had the second type on until we changed gutters last summer (different color) the worked very well since 2001. I decided to give the first type a try.

Get a kid and hold the ladder they aren't hard to put on make sure they slide under the shingle over hang and lock against the gutter. You may need to trim them a scissor works. also cutting them to fit the gutter end make a better job.

(2,749 posts)Or do they both work equally as well?
Is one type easier to install?

(37,449 posts)the wire (first) one would need a wire snip. Like I said I had the other ones since 2002, they held up by since the gutters were removed I decided to try the other one. They keep out leaves, nuts, etc.

(23,689 posts)carrying supplies, nope. Not gonna do it. So had it done. Work included all supplies, cleaning out all gutters, repairing and replacing any damaged gutters and downspouts, resealing all seams with silicone caulk, installing guards and cleanup. For my house it was a total of $2300 for my 1500sq ft house. Well worth it. Haven't had to clean any gutters for the past 5 years.

(38,317 posts)...maybe because they live in an oak forest. A lot of leaf fragments were getting past the gutter guards. Maybe not as fast, but the gutter guards were only in the way when the gutters eventually did clog up.
My wife's parents know a couple of guys who clean gutters, clear brush per fire department regulations, and do other handyman type jobs for quite reasonable rates. They live in a small rural community where everyone talks to one another so the reputations of the local handymen are well known. The bad ones don't stay in business, the good ones have all the business they want.
My father in law used to do all these household chores himself but my wife and her mom have banned him from ladders. We know too many elderly people who have severely injured themselves falling off of ladders.

(18,868 posts)It might just be easier and cheaper to have the gutters cleaned 2x a year.
I found a good company on Home Advisor. It's a husband and wife team.
I really liked the wife when I met her.

(19,840 posts)I just paid someone about 50 bucks to clean the gutters on my 1500 sq foot ranch.
*sorry, on edit I didn't see your post 4.

(42,152 posts)We have guards, and they're just plastic. They work well enough.

(18,868 posts)clean the gutters or can you go longer?
I have a lot of trees.
sakabatou
(42,152 posts)They stay only in the gutters by friction, mostly.

(25,321 posts)if you have pine needles, they will clog most any inexpensive guards that I've tried.
Now I pay my yardman to clean them twice a year.

(15,540 posts)My one-story ranch is 1650 square feet. I have several trees that hand over my roof. I tried the "I'll just clean them more often" routine, but they can clog up quickly if you have a lot of tree debris. Two of the trees have the maple helicopters and they are just terrible at clogging gutters and downspouts if you don't have gutter guard.
My neighbor has the same type house as I do and he had decided to do gutter guards. He researched it and saw very good reviews for Costco's guards. So he and I bought them from Costco. He installed his own, but I paid a gutter guy $200 to install mine. The guards for my house cost $200 at Costco.
I have been very pleased with them. The only thing I have to keep an eye on are the two valleys in front of my front stoop. The helicopters can get stuck where the two guards come together. Fortunately, I can reach that on a six-foot ladder and clean them out occasionally.
For your size house it should be rather inexpensive. If you don't have a Costco membership, maybe you know someone who does and they can pick them up for you.
