Three years ago today, we trapped a dying feral cat named Mason. With just a few months left to live, I brought him home to give him the comfort and dignity every living creature deserves after a life well lived.
What happened next blew us away.
Mason found a new purpose in life: being a foster grandpa to rescue kittens. For 1069 magical days, Grandpa Mason shaped dozens of young minds, passed down important grandpa secrets, demonstrated tremendous hunting prowess, taught manners, quashed impudence and created a multitude of fashion-forward kitten hairstyles.
On September 19, 2019, we had to say goodbye to Mason. He crossed the Bridge peacefully and painlessly, with great dignity, at home on his tiny sofa, surrounded by the Auracuda, the TinyTuxies and his kittens.

(34,111 posts)A beautiful story.
He looked like my recently departed Tiger Brown who, after 5 years let me touch him. We could not catch him, the TNR trap was set. A few months ago I let him out after he ate and he sat on my deck like the owner of the world, looked at me and got another stroke on his head and he left. So many fox and coyote around my house.
So this story made me cry but it is oh so beautiful. Grandpa Mason,

(34,111 posts)No matter how they chose to be in your life you can always make them feel love. It takes so little, a reliable food source is easy. It took me years to get Tiger into my room to eat comfortably, then he would stay in during bad weather often over night. After a while I was able to touch him on the head with a finger. I went too far one day and he tore me up so we went back to the beginning. By the time he left that last time he would sit next to me and let me gently pet his head and he had a special song that would call him over to me.
He was surrounded by love. Every creature deserves that, it is one of the easiest things to do to just show a little love. This is one of the best videos I have seen about this. So many are good but this showed the care and concern before TNR and the slow and patient work it takes to get to where this dear, dying cat could feel all the good things he likely missed out on.
Sorry, I lost too many cats this year and I get all twisted up about this. Happy/sad/happy You know very well how that goes.
