(5,914 posts)I honestly can't believe that no one has implemented that yet. It would be a surefire "hit".

(86,647 posts)a prime example of why I'm glad I bailed on teevee back in 1980. Haven't allowed one in my home since then. I watch on occasion but only if I feel like going out, much like going to a movie or something. I hate the sound they make... some high pitched tone that gives me headaches.
I do stream some news but that's because I need to know what's going on, e-mail and weather and some research online and that's all I need for screen watching.
Hope you find something worth the time and is interesting.

(118,691 posts)the ad for it. I grew up with only a few hours of tv a week until i was ten. I don't regret that at all but like the news shows and always have. I'm an addict. As a kid i listened to radio. My parents two radios on the same cbc station going. So that is where i got so addicted and interested in the world. That and the dinner table.
I can see having one for a variety of reasons but I don't need one. I am a news junkie, though. And after all, I do have a degree in polisci so I kind of can't help it when it comes to politics. It's why DU is my go to place online. I can get all the news I can handle most of the time. Yesterday, because of the events of the day, it turned into a news binge. I took today off until dinner.

(38,317 posts)Most adults were too deaf to hear it, especially men who worked in noisy industrial environments, used noisy power tools, shot guns, etc.. My grandparent's color television was a real screamer. They heard nothing.
Modern flat screen televisions don't make those kinds of noises. They don't have the high voltage fly-back transformers CRT televisions do.
My wife and I quit traditional television about the same time we replaced our CRT television with a flat screen. For a few years we only watched DVDs, until one of our kids who loves low and medium budget film making set us up with Netflix. We pay $8.99 a month for that.
Our television is a movie player, that's all it does.
We never see television advertising, news, or opinion.
