(55,013 posts)experienced one in 2006, dumped several inches of rain in about 10 minutes in an area less than a square mile, flooded my yard and house half way up the back wall (I live on a hill there is a small wash behind the house that has never gone over its bank that I know of, its little watershed is less than 80 acres) same wash - bunch of rocks and boulders running past the house you could hear it was crazy a real flash flood, killed a cow and calf that was up stream somewhere. flooded and washed out fences five miles downstream and it didn't even rain 1/4 mile below the house. it was wild.

(21,485 posts)the country from the eastern Great Lakes region to AZ. The pilot came on to tell us we were taking a detour around some "rough weather" so our arrival time would be a bit late. At first I was disappointed at the delay and extra flight time. Then I realized we were at that point probably near the heart of tornado country and it was late August. I thought to myself, "Sure. OK by me. Take all the time you need."

(5,734 posts)was in a small shopping center where I used to work. It literally rained on one store! The line of demarcation was so distinct, you could stand outside the shower and stick your arm into the rain. It lasted several minutes, and one could hardly believe one's eyes. I walked around the store, and it was the same in back as in the front. The parking lot was dry. The other stores were dry. Just amazing!
