I've got lots of grey hair that I want to brighten up and my hairdresser is going to try a "silver wash."
This is the effect I want (that's a model, not me btw)
I'm thrilled because I like my grey and wish I could just get grey all over!

(102,292 posts)Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be in my genes... If you have the right complexion "coloring" it can be extremely flattering.

(60,010 posts)And especially how they do it, please.
As an aside...I have about a 1 inch wide streak of hair on my forehead which started turning grey around age 35. Weird, huh? rest of my hair was basically light brown.
Weirder is, as I have gotten older and greyer, that patch now has been getting darker and darker brown.
wish I knew what the secret is.

(63,912 posts)a dye. We both chose the former to see how we liked it but with less permanent results. If I like the wash we'll do that ever so often. It's $50 a shot but I might be able to transition to a product I can buy on line and just wash into my hair like a regular shampoo.
This is exciting. I'm investing in a few new clothes that the grey hair will look sensational with. Like deep purples and silver whites, black, and vivid blue.
I'll keep away from orange, yellow and brown.

(65,403 posts)blond, but then as adults they are often brunette.
I am half Sicilian and half Anglo, but my siblings and I kept our childhood hair color as adults.
But one of my kids started off as a cornsilk blond, and then his hair turned medium brown by his mid teens. (My kids' dad is half French, half Swedish.)

I am lucky that I have curl but it is dry. I use a light squirt of oil. Really makes it shine.

(34,402 posts)ever since. I'm tempted to let myself just go gray, but don't know how to do it without looking ridiculous or shaving my head. Needless to say, I'm 100% gray. I'm over 1/2 Native American so my hair is dark brown but thin and fine. I'm getting so tired of dying my hair every 4-6 weeks and my grays are dye-resistant so I have to leave the dye on twice as long as recommended and even then it always comes out a little lighter than the rest of my hair. My mom had gorgeous silver hair and I've noticed that my roots look a lot like hers was.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

(38,002 posts)The streaks of blond blend better with the gray and the line of demarcation between new growth and old growth is less visible.

(5,812 posts)I have very dark brown hair and with a "halo" of gray only at the front. I get compliments all the time about my hair ever since I stopped tinting my hair to cover the gray. I love not having "roots" to deal with and not having the tint turn that ugly color of red-brown when it grew out while the roots after being colored were dark.
I love it and I think you will, too!

(66,386 posts)I never understood middle-aged men who start eyeing young ladies in their twenties. There's such a 'ew' factor there. I've always been more attracted to women my own age or older. Especially women who embrace their maturity instead of moving Heaven and Earth to look twenty again (usually with less-than-convincing results...)

(34,111 posts)I have wanted grey hair since I was little, I have always loved it. I had dirty blonde hair all my life and now I am 65 and it is now dark brown. Maybe 6 strands of grey in the back. So I decided to make it grey.
After 3 years of trying my hair started to get really thin, I knew it was time to stop. It first turned kelly green, then the next time blue. My hairdresser is an expert at this stuff, I chose her for that reason. I think she was afraid I would sue her or something. She could never ever get it grey. The best we could do was an ashy platinum. So I am back to a base of dark brown hair with a little ashy blonde on top. I am ok with it but it is nothing close to what I wanted. My grandmother is the only person in my family to make it out of their 40's, 50's and 60's, she was 91, but she dyed her hair all her life so I have no clue. My mother died at my age and she barely had grey and my father died in his early 50's and his had a little but I guess I will not get it unless I outlive them all....I have now except for my grandmother.
SO hooray for you, it is a beautiful color!

(17,986 posts)I have been there, but finally had a hairdresser who gave me Champagne Blond. Loved it but the day I retired was the day I went natural.
Just had it cut yesterday. Once a month, 15, 20 minutes, out the door!

(86,646 posts)are amazingly common in my town. Really, I see women of all ages, and young girls, with purple, kool-aid green, orange and lemon yellow when I go to the grocery or whatever. It's pretty normal... unless they all tried to color their hair with unanticipated results.
