We leave you with this, as this weekend's tune selection:

Jimmy Henley shocked his dad and everybody else when he began playing the banjo at the age of 7. It was probably his winning the World Bluegrass Banjo Championship in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 10 that caught Roy Clark's attention, resulting in Roy employing Jimmy for more than 25 years. This is one of Jimmy's appearances on Hee Haw in which Roy pretends being threatened by Jimmy's skill. The black band that appears at 1 minute 44 seconds is to cover a broadcast message that would be way more annoying than the band.

WOWZA!

I grew up in northern West Virginia, and though it is not where it was where my family came from (Upstate NY, we moved there when my Dad was transferred and I was about 3) our scant rural TV selections/receptions did easily provide Hee Haw. I really appreciated the music, as well as the very pretty ladies, as a young lad.

Watched it every time for years, but I recall Roy Clark more clearly on other instruments, so clicking on this I was delighted to see him scorching that fiddle so on one of my fave bluegrass tracks. And young Jimmy, oh my!

Many many thanks for this post!

I'm now setting off down a YouTube rabbit-hole of bluegrass tracks....

Saaaaalute!
