Pics like THIS should contain the whole story and not just the shock value image.

When a deer tried to hump our fake deer. But I was doubled over laughing.

Mother deer will put their babies in a "safe" place while they go feed in order to nurse. The fawns have no scent for a while so if they stay put, they won't be detected by predators. Sometimes the safe place is rather odd to us. It's usually best to not try to "rescue" these animals because the mother will return for the baby when it's time to nurse.

I see it more as ironic than sad.

That poor little one. I hope mom is coming back.

When I went to the barn this morning, there were two small young does grazing close by. I always talk to our deer, and they are very curious. One of these girls actually took several steps closer to inspect me, maybe 20 ft away. I was holding my breath. They may be the twin fawns we saw earlier in the summer.

It gives me chills to get that close to wildlife.

I have many deer living around me who come thru & feed in our yard. It's more exciting to see the babies. 💕

My neighbors got upset that I was leaving apple peelings & bread out for them during a time when these deer were looking too thin. Then, these same neighbors reported me to the HOA.

Looking back on it, I'm more understanding of their motives: they were rightfully concerned about the spread of deer ticks. We have Lyme disease in this area and just a couple of months ago our oldest black lab tested positive. We can see ticks & remove them on our yellow lab but it's most difficult to find these tiny little ticks on a black lab.

Oh, and what really excites me are our little gray foxes who have come within a few feet of me. 💕 But you know about those guys, Bayard.

❤ critters.

It looks motherless & should be taken to a rescue. Or bottle fed & raised by the folks finding it. There are many youtube videos of deer being raised by people who have later found deer herds to join.
