So my family and I had a wonderful experience at one of my children's graduations when we went to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate. My son ordered saki and I tried it. I'm not a drinker. I just had enough to wet my lips and I swear my poor eye sight straightened out. I kid you not.
Anyway, it was a great experience even if I didn't drink, but warm saki suddenly became a family "good memory." So now I want to buy a saki set and the best saki available for my hubby for Father's Day.
Any experts here who can give advice?

I have lots of saki/sushi/asian foods equipment and serveware. There's no reason to spend lots of money unless you are buying good lacquer bowls or bento boxes or something really exquisite. You will want to buy decent saki, too, not the swill usually served warm in restaurants.

(12,132 posts)would you be willing to name the restaurant? I'm always looking for good sushi and I like the sake I've had but I'm no expert at it.
I know it's impolite to pour it for yourself though. That's part of why it's fun - you gotta have folks around who will pour you a drink.
I bet if you go to the asian markets around 50 and mills near downtown Orlando you will find a ton of cool sake sets and other things too. My daughter loves anime and we often shop down there as they have a much larger selection than the big megastores.

You're right. Hubby is worth driving down to Colonial to find him a nice set.

(12,132 posts)I'll drive to maybe Seminole county for good sushi but Boston would be a stretch...
Have fun shopping though! We always have a good time down there. Lots of great food in the area.

(24,262 posts)If you have a Total Wine nearby, try them. They have a nice selection of sake. If not any upscale liquor store will an assortment.

(12,132 posts)in the Colonial Promenade on 50 a few blocks east of the asian area. I remember seeing several shelves of sake in there.
Lots of other great stuff too.
In fact I think I need to start dropping hints around my house that that would be a swell place to spend father's day dollars.

(2,208 posts)My advice would be if you are looking on-line, to spell it correctly, with an e instead of an i at the end.
You'll get more hits that way!
Amazon has some nice sets for sale, if you are interested in buying from them.
As far as the sake itself, there are as many different kinds as there are whiskey, for example, so it depends on if you like it sweet or dry, etc.
esake.com explains the different types:

(8,492 posts)His wife is Japanese (Okinawan) and he loves sake. I know he has a favorite, but I can't remember what it's called. I could ask her, but she doesn't like it. Her favorite is plum wine.
As far as sake sets go, if you do a search online I'm sure you could find a really nice one. Be careful that the set you find doesn't say "decorative only". Those may contain lead if made in China. Sake sets are very popular and I've seen some beautiful "modern" ones that have really attractive simple designs. My son and DIL bought me one that I love.
Edit: This is what they gave me to go along with the sake set:

(8,492 posts)Sounds like your husband is a lot like mine. I won't go to theaters, though. I don't like people and I'm claustrophobic. Every time I sit in a theater I note the exits and look to see which people will have to die in order for me to get out first.
I sent a text to my kid. I should hear back tonite. I know whatever the name of it is was really good, and I'm not a big fan of sake. I prefer to sip plum wine on ice with the DIL.

(46,765 posts)Theaters are the only place where I really like people. Especially for premieres when everyone is interested enough to stay quiet. Audience reaction can sometimes be an enjoyable shared experience.
But I hear ya. I'm not claustrophobic, but when you live in an unethical community you learn to live under siege. Almost the same thing.
