that said, this poor kiddo is a sadly common result of the popularity of the bulldog.
they are the most genetically f'ed up breed.

if you are at all inclined to get one, do yourself a favor and find a victorian or an olde english. find a breeder, and buy direct. the people doing this are doing it well, and doing it for the right reasons. they are trying to take them back to the sturdy, dependable breed they used to be. my biff is an almost perfect bulldog, no brag just fact. he is exactly his breed standard. his nearly identical brother is a grand champion.
i have spent most of my adult life making up for my canine deprived childhood, i have had a lot of dogs. 2, 3, 4 at a time.

i have never had a better dog than biff. the only one that holds a candle is my dearly departed white boxer.

4. I totally agree. Breeders are some of the worst. And it's not just dogs. Look at what cat breeders

are doing, deliberately perpetuating defects like those stumpy little legs in Munchkins and look at what they've done to Persians. Their faces are so smashed in that they can't even breathe anymore. And Siamese cats used to be so gorgeous. Now they look like freaks and the Traditional or Apple Heads are being bred out of existence. I wish they'd regulate them better.

It's a sin.

I'm Mr. Buzzkill on these kinds of things. Years ago, one of my kids had an assignment to write about an endangered animal, and was given "white tigers" by his teacher. Oy. Deliberately bred for recessive genes with cross-linked mental defects. He ended up writing an essay on why they shouldn't be propagated, which I doubt the teacher was expecting.

6. Well, if you're "Mr. Buzzkill" then I'm "Ms. Buzzkill" because I'm right there with you.

I can't believe the teacher actually thought that white tigers were a naturally-occurring breed. Good for your son. Maybe the teacher was the one that learned something that day. S/he probably thinks that ligers are endangered, too.

I love Siamese cats but have never owned a purebred one. All my "Siamese" have been mixes, adopted from the shelter or found different places. I particularly like tabby points, but not the show types. Give me a good mutt cat any time!

Same for our dogs, shelter adoptees or found on the side of the highway. One dog was purebred - Golden Retriever whose "parents were divorcing and neither could keep him. Sweet dog, but the dumbest damn dog I ever owned.

her elderly owner had to enter assisted living and couldn't take Rosie with her. She's been with my other two rescues, Sammy and Otis, and me for about two months now and it seems like she's always lived with us. Although Rosie is more of a Tortie Point, I guess. She's so precious. She and Otis sound like a herd of elephants running around when they get to playing. I'm half expecting my downstairs neighbors to come up to complain.

My last kitty disappeared while we were in the UK. He was a shelter kitten, about four ounces when I adopted him. He was seventeen and a half when he just didn't show up for breakfast one day. The people taking care of the farm searched for him, put up posters, checked the shelter. He's been gone two months now.

AS a kitten, he had almost no color on his points and striping on his tail. He ended up with swirls of color on his body, but those distinctive blue Siamese eyes and a definitive Siamese voice.

We won't get any new cats right now. We're adding onto the house and will turn the screened porch into a four season room/catio. The we're going to look for a couple of adult cats that will get along.

He looks a lot like my late husband's soulmate, Gracie except for the awesome crossed eyes. She was about 20 when my husband had to enter a nursing home because he developed dementia related to complications from having Type I Diabetes for over 50 years. Gracie passed away in her sleep from old age about 2 years after he entered the nursing home but I didn't have the heart to tell him. It would've broken his heart. Again, I'm so sorry.
